Memorial Day Service - 05/29/2006
Confederate War Memorial Chapel

On May 29, 2006 I had the pleasure of attending the Memorial Day Service at the Confederate War Memorial Chapel in Richmond, Virginia, at the invitation of a friend from church. It was a very moving service.
The Chapel is one of two structures that have survived from the home for disabled and indigent Confederate veterans which opened in Richmond in 1885. The camp closed after the last resident veteran died in 1941.
The Chapel itself was dedicated on May 8, 1887, and funerals for more than 1,700 soldiers and their relatives were held in the chapel.
